Does anyone know if any San Francisco dealers accept boats as trade ins? I have a 1986 Hunter 285 that I am thinking of trading up for a 32 - 36 newer boat using my boat as a trade-in with Cash to close... Any creative ideas? Thanx! Rene Schmidt Hunter 285 Emeryville, CA

Cruising Specialists in Alameda is the Hunter dealer there. I don't know there policy on trades but they seem pretty aggressive. Have you spoken with them?

Why would you do that?

Rene: Why would you do that? If they purchase the boat from you they need to fix it up, make a profit, and plan on flooring it for a period of time. All that means to you is they are probably going to give you about $10k less that it is worth. I would advertise it here on the web site and also put a listing in Lat. 38. I would bet that you can sell this boat in a couple of weeks. If that does not work, you can then try a broker. If you are going to sell it yourself, you should make it look 'street clean'. Clean the bilges, lockers etc. Maybe even have the hull and topsides detailed. Maximize your potential.
