Trying to get the admiral to spend more time on the boat with me so looking at Satellite TV options. Has anybody installed the new KVH C3 on their boat. If so how hard was it to mount and what kind of reception are you getting?

Hugh...think we're all too poor..;)

or cheap for the Sat TV option. High dollar depending on your perspective. And, for anchoring you need a gen to use the thing (or a lot of batteries and charging capability.) And, you don't want to start the debate over "why have TV onboard"...you will get an earful here. That said, I do the DTV sat dish and just look like the Beverly Hillbillies at my current semi-yacht club. I had planned to add the Follow-Me There system for cruising, but somehow I'm expected to work most days so that idea is on hold. I do see numerous larger sailboats up in these parts with KVH, and many many power boats. The sb's usually have it mounted on an arch or pole off the stern. I've seem some pretty elaborate set-ups for sure. But def do something...if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

TV on boat

Do you just want to watch SAT TV at the marina/club? There is a cheaper option if the marina/club has wireless internet. I use a sling box from home Sat TV and send the signal over the internet to the boat. You can do this to the other side of the world. http://ca.slingmedia.com/page/cahome.html

Sea King is great

I have a Sea King that cost about $1500 less than KVH and it is presently mounted to my stern rail. It work great and I have never lost the signal even while sailing. I have Tivo so I tape a lot of sports stuff, movie etc. and watch it at my convenience. The units is large and I am in the process of mounting it on a tower to get it up and away from the deck. I bought a small 400 watt inverter from auto zone and it runs my TV as well as the Sea King. Down side it is big and can become habit forming.
