i have a 1985 28.5 hunter and have to replace my traveler track. the plastic rollers are chiped and are abrading my lines. the original manufacture is out of bussines. i would like to know how to remove the old track.
Replacing the plastic sheaves at the ends of the track of the stock Rutgerson track on the H.28.5 is both easy and cheap. I bought some sheaves of the right diameter from BoatUS and just pulled the screws out and dropped them in. If you really need to replace the whole track, take a look at the archives of the Hunter 28.5 group on Yahoo as a number of H28.5 have done this. See link.
You should be able to unscrew the existing track. We replaced our about 12 years ago. We went with a Harken. They custom drilled the track so the installation was quite simple. This traveler works as good today as it did the day it was installed. I think you will find that Garhauer Marine will do the same thing as Harken. Send them the old track and they can send you a complete new setup.
