Im considering using the H26 as a dry sailor weekends and daysails say 10 times a year. I love the size of the boat but, it seems almost too big to set up an launch often. Is anyone using the boat like this? All the ones I find 4 sale are in the water and the trailer is a resting place for winter.

Have you checked the archives? There is a ton of stuff on this subject there. Your boat weighs about 5700 lbs on the trailer and takes about an hour to set up and about the same amount of time to take down (Some are faster, some are slower). Are you up to that each time you want to go sailing? Some are, and some are not.

Not For Just a Weekend
Hi George, I'm on my second H26. I really thought about buying a larger boat but that would mean keeping it in a slip somewhere. I live in Southern Arizona and the nearest lake of any size is about 250 miles away (through Tucson and Phoenix). There are several large lakes between 250 and 500 miles away from me and I love to explore and sail on them all. The Sea of Cortez is 350 miles away. I never go out for a weekend -- all I'd get done is driving and setting the boat up and taking it down. When I go it is for at least a week and sometimes for a month. The H26 is big enough to stay a month on as long as you can get ice and fresh groceries once in a while. It probably takes me a little longer than most to set up/take down because I always have to get it ready for a long drive. I use tie down straps, bungie cords, ropes, duct tape, ratchets and about anything you can think of to secure the boat, the trailer, things inside the cabin, etc. Just about every time I forgot to secure something, it ends up lost or broken. But I've gotten pretty good at it, knowing what has to be done and how to do it. A lot of good advice from this forum has really helped. Anyway, I could have gone for a bigger or smaller boat the second time but I loved my first H26 so much that I bought a second one. It's just right for me! Happy Sailing Jim Schaff s/v Savannah

We do every weekend
I have a 260 and jsut about every weekend I pull her down to the ramp and set her up. I mean at this time of the year down under the sun is shining at about 4.30am so there is plenty of time for a good sail. Often though I leave her in a pen or on a mooring for the Saterday night and pull her out Sunday evening or first thing Monday mornings.

Steve, I have had my 260 since March this year. I have launched her about 18 times in various places around North and South Carolina, both lakes and ocean, for day sails and weekends as well as for a week-long vacation. She currently is parked on the trailer at home waitng for the mate to get healthy so we can have our next adventure. Feel confident that the boat will be comfortable for your plans. With the appropriate sized tow vehicle you can go anywhere and launch.
