We are thinking of getting a Toyota Highlander and I was wondering if anyone tows their boat with one. The specs say a 5000 towing capacity. with should be plenty enough for my 3000-lb hunter 23.5. Thanks Todd Hubbell

Doesn't sound like a home run

See the attached link. There are also good forums on edmunds.com and apparently a user group on yahoo. I was planning on towing a Hunter 23 and bought a V8 Tundra. Then I bought a 25 foot boat without a trailer for $1000...so since I wasn't towing it anyway I bought a 30 footer ;-)

towing with a Toyota Highlander

I have a 2001 Highlander 2 wheel drive with a V-6 rated at 220 HP and also rated to pull 3,500 pounds. I bought a 1971 22' Venture several years ago and tow it very easily (I don't even lock out overdrive) everywhere even over steep hills with no problems. The combination loaded boat, trailer, motor and gear is over 3,000 pounds. The best part is that it has a button (snow) that starts the vehicle out in second gear to make pulling out of a slick ramp efortless. Duane "Novelman"

Does the "3000-lb hunter" include the weight of the trailer and all the stuff that goes with it...motor, fuel, mast, sails, equipment, etc?
