Crazy Dave Condon was involved with the development of the H260 and is the best source of all things relative to this boat. After that, you’ll find a wealth of information within this site on the boat, including archived discussions regarding tow vehicles. There is a site still up from the Mistress of Traverse Bay that has an excellent treatise on weights and towing approaches for this boat. The site is H260.com.
Finally, I have owned and trailered our 260 since 2004. With all our gear and hard mounted 9.9 hp outboard the boat and trailer are around 6,500lbs I believe. I started with a 1998 Ford Expedition with a V-8, 4x4, tow package and 10k lb tow rating. Of the 3 vehicles I used it was the best. Next was a 2011 Tahoe similarly equipped. It had enough power but the boat drove the rig. If you have to react suddenly in traffic it is not the best. I drove like I was on ice. I tried adding air pads in the coil springs to no avail. A full length Suburban would have been better. Upgraded to the current 2017 F-150 similarly equipped (except with a 3.5 liter twin turbo 6 cylinder gas which has more power than the V8's). It’s a standard pickup wheelbase but lighter due to the aluminum body, so the boat drives it a little as well.
Personally, I would not pull that boat with a 4 Runner. I agree about the 10k rating above, and Dave’s comment about 4wd for the ramp (we leave the 2,000 lbs of water ballast in the tank until we reach the top of the ramp). I also think the tow vehicle has to have enough mass of its own to provide stability while towing.
For us it’s been the perfect boat. We trailer 50 miles up I5 seasonally to a moorage on the Columbia River. All the best with your pursuit.
