I'm moving and need to tow my O'Day 26. I don't have a personal vehicle with the capacity to tow her. Does U-Haul allow me to tow my boat w/ their truck? If not, who does?
that i know of are Ryder and International Trucks Pac Lease. They specialize in the larger trucks but i would think they would have something in the 1 ton range that would suit your needs and would not require a cdl. never hurts to shop around. i believe that there are some people out there who would be glad to help you out for about 1/2 of what you will end up paying to rent a truck, however, i don't know the logistics of the move you need to make. hopefully someone in your area will check out your post and help you make it happen.
I have seen u-haul trucks towing car trailers with car,so depending on boat weight brakes on trailer and how faryou are going should not be problem.I have also seen a pickup tow a 32 ft sailboat, dependson you and the rental co.
What else would they be used for? The contract is about two pages with a 3 point font so it may say no trailers other than what they attach. Their trailers also say they have a max speed of 45MPH. Rent it, hook it up, and go for it.
Thanks for the responses so far.UHAUL and Penske both state nothing towed that you do not rent from them, to include my boat trailer. That's a crock, but it's their company. Ryder only rents local, not one-way.Wish me luck, and if anyone has ideas, please post them.
When I 1st started boating I used to tow my 1st power boat (came to senses, now am a sailor) with U-haul pickups for months before I bought a truck.I didn't ask, I just rented and towed. What are they going to do, fire you? The only caveat I can see is if you use their insurance and have an incident involving the tow then there may be trouble. Just use your own insurance, if your policy covers rentals.
