I tow a Hunter 170 at 1000 pounds. I was hoping someone was towing similar weight with a new Bronco.
1000lbs is nothing. My car can tow that.
For comparison:
"The base model of the 2022 Ford Bronco comes in two types- the 2-door and 4-door variants. Both these models have a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. Bronco features a standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine in the two-door model with a curb weight of only 4,977 and a 7-speed manual transmission. "
The 1.5 litre 3 cyl EcoBoost in the bronco sport model only tows 2000lbs but still double what that boat and trailer is.
In either case it could easily tow that small boat.
I may broaden my search. Ford is trending toward a 3-cylinder, high compression, engine. That says "disposable" to me and brings back memories of a 60s Saab.
Not sure why a 3 cyl engine is magically disposable vs a 4cyl or V6. Lots of crap engines out there in various sizes.
That said, after running an automotive shop I wouldn't touch a new Ford.
For example.. The EcoBoost is known by mechanics as the EcoBoom.
Ford has other issues... All the techs I know hate working on them.
I also avoid new models of most companies because of a strong shift in engineering focus towards OEM only repairs.
If I wanted an SUV I would buy Toyota. In general would buy Japanese or Korean now l if i was buying new.
FWIW I wouldn't buy new unless it was an EV. The last 6 or 7 years of most conventional ICE vehicles are progressively more complex and very expensive to repair. When you have to remove the whole front of a vehicle to change a headlamp, it is a bit much.
