Big winds (50-60 mph) blew through last night and broke a few sailboats off their moorings near the South Shore Yacht Club in Milwaukee. I went down this morning and mine was still safe on its mooring. My mooring is only a couple years old and is thankfully overbuilt. Three boats weren't so lucky. Unfortunately one sailboat sank (the news story said two sank but I heard only one actually sank), and two others were washed on shore. The shore on the north side of the yacht club is very unforgiving and it was very sad to see the boat broken up like this. Apparently it's mooring separated below the water line since the mooring ball was still attached. Hopefully the other two boats on the south side of the club shore didn't sustain too much damage (one appears to be a twin keel). The shore south of the club is sand and gravel, rather than big rocks. The boats still in their slips got banged around a bit as well but at least they are all still floating.
Rough way to end the season. I'm looking at one more week, max.
