Can any previous or current Catalina owner of any 27 or 30 foot model(S) please advise me as to the advantages and disadvantages (specfically) of owning such a boat for either long seasonal serious sailing (April to October) and/or YEAR-Round live aboard including the winter? This may be my first boat! Tx all, John

I've had both

Had both. Now own Cat 27 outboard. Cat 30 is so much more boat, both for cruising and live-a-board. Costs 2-3 times $$, but way more boat!! Go for a 30!!

Buy the 30

I have a Catalina 30 which is my first boat. It is all I was told it would be and more. Everyone who comes aboard for a visit is amazed at how much space there is down below. As for sailing, all I can say is she is fast, fun and a treat to sail. Go big or stay at home. Regards

If you can afford it.

Go for the 30, She handles beautifully and has tons of space. I am sure there is quite a price difference between 27 and 30 though. Good luck. JS

concider the Catalina 28

If you consider the 27 OR 30 why not the Catalina 28...it has most of the features of the 30 BUT wider and more head room then the 27, and it handles great by 1 person. I have had a 25,used a 27 for a while and own a 28 and been on several 30's. If dock size and cost are some issues then the 28 offers a LOT. Dave
