Has anyone gone to the show yet? We're going up tomorrow for the day, hope to buy some new toys for the boat and see whats new. what did you think of the show this year, last years just really didn't thrill a lot of people for some reason.

I'm not going but my manufacturers reps are there with our product. I've seen a great response from Canadian buyers. I understand they have free shuttle buses running between the hotels and the convention center.

Been there

Hit the show last Tuesday. I have never been to this show before as I am new to this area. I thought it was OK. Like most inside shows you are going to look at the typcial production boats you looked at last year and the year before and the year before............. There was a good selection of product booths, but I did not really see any thing new that caught my attention. I don't expect much out of these shows. In the middle of winter, I just like to hang around boats and boat people and that is the attraction for me.

this should bring some response

Returning from the Toronto boat show one thing that struck me and my wife was how putting aft cabins in mid sized boats (32-38) cause the main cabins to be cramped. My apologies to those of you who have a mid sized boat with an aft cabin. I think the interiors of these boats are not particularily functional off shore, and in harbor, waste valuable lounging space in the main cabin. The aft cabin does give a more private setting for sleeping, but once one is asleep, who cares. I will take the larger main cabin with sea berths, over an aft cabin any day,

did both, take the aft cabin

I have a 37' center cockpit-aft cabin and lived on a aft cockpit with a large salon. Try as I might, crawling all over in the AM, or whenever, to find stuff in a cave was a pain. And the sex part, with crew aboard, was worse than in my Dodge Caravan. Give me head room, please. Yes, it is nice to have more room, but, most sailboats are designed wrong anyway. Next to me was a 32' powerboat. Nice layout, lots of room. They slept in the bow, rarely left the dock. Further down was a 40'powerboat, with even less room on the interior, but a huge deck outside, which was used all summer. They too slept in the bow, and only left the dock to take the boat out of the water for the season. I sail, and camp out on the boat. I go to the Islands, Sandusky, Vermilion, Grand River...you get the picture. If it's nice, we stay right near the beach, on the notorious Lake Eriee. Sleeping in the aft cabin while underway is the best. It's quiet, except if only I could lock the prop shaft. On the aft cockpit, sleeping while underway reminded me of sleeping in a bowling alley. LOUD. Do you really need a bow berth? Not really. For me, it's a storage area. hope to open the bulkhead more and then it will seem like a bigger boat.

Nice day at the show

It was a balmie 14 degrees out side and 35 mph winds so sitting at the helm and looking out the window was really a great way to get away from the weather. I went with 3 other friends 2 powerboaters and 1 sailor, we got to see just about all the really big power and sail boats, this year I made a list of venders I wanted to see and it work out fine. The Canadian exchange isn't as good as in the past but it still was a good deal. Looked at the Brig dingies a 8'6" RIB for $1750 CDN is really not a bad price. We'll be back again next year, don't forget the passport rule after tomorrow.
