I want to repaint the Hunter blue stripe at the waterline probably with a one part polyurethane but I don't want to blow the color selection too badly. I asked Hunter and they said the color is Regatta blue. I don't know if this corresponds to any manufacturer's selections. Has anyone else been down this road?

I found ....

on my 1983 h34 there is lots of gelcoat thickness. I sanded the stripe with a power sander and 220 grit, the hand sanded with 400 and 600 wet sandpaper, then buffed with compound. The original color came back to life without painting. If you're gonna paint try this in a small spot. You may be suprized with the results. Barry

What I've used

Try Petit Easypoxy "Electric Blue". It's about as close as you can get, runs about $18 a quart and is available at all the boat stores.

Vinyl Stripe

I had a vinyl stripe placed on the boat and it has held up for 3 years and doesn't show any signs of wear.

blue stripe

I taped mine off and painted over it with navy blue. Some helpful hints, buy a real good brush, your paint needs to be thinned according to the ambient temperature that day, stroke only one direction and use tape that is for a fine line, the tape is like a light green color and is better than the regular tape. I did mine this way and you really have to look close to see that is was painted. Call me if you want to ask questions 856-697-4090, I did the top stripes to but I used vynal tap one them.
