Tops'l
John: We've been there frequently -- on our fishing boat, not our sailboat, because the inlets are tricky as the dickens for shallow draft boats. It's a long, thin barrier island running roughly from SW to NE. New Topsail Inlet at the SW end is roughly 34 degrees 21'N and 77 degrees 39' give or take a bit. If you're on a sailboat with any draft at all, you'd consider Masonboro Inlet, at the the lower end of Wrightsville Beach just east of Wilmington, or Beaufort Inlet well to the north for safe passage. And Beaufort (NC, not to be confused with a town by the same name in South Carolina) Inlet can be tricky as the devil even in good weather. Holler if you need more info on the area.
