OK SO I DONT GET MY OWN RIG! HOW DO I RUN MY TOPPING LIFT? PRETEND IM REALLY STUPID. BECAUSE I AM. THE BACK OF THE BOOM HAS THREE LINES. ONE IS THE CLEW REEF LINE, THE OTHER THE OUTHAUL. NOW THE THIRD LINE (THE TOPPIN LIFT RUNS FROM THE FRONT OF THE BOOM JUST LIKE THE CLEW REEF LINE AND COMES OUT THE BACK OF THE BOOM. NOW WHERE DOES IT GO. WHERE DOES IT CONNECT TO. SINCE I CANT SEEM TO FIND IT ON MY OWN, PRETEND I AM SO STUPID I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW ANYTHING ABOUT TOPPING LIFT.

You are only stupid if you use all caps...

On my boat (35) the topping lift comes out thru the boom just like yours and attaches to the top of the mast. The adjustment line exits fromt he front of the boom. The better setup would be to have a spare halyard as a topping lift which could double as a mainsail halyard in an emergency.

We all have to learn...Civility, please

John, the use of all caps in electronic communication is the equivalent of shouting. It is considered rude. So although it is easier to just lock the caps on, please don't do it.

My toping lift

My topping lift is a wire cable with a rope end that ties to the end of the boom. No run through the boom.

what the hell?

If you have jiffy reefing, the three sheaves built into the back of the boom , the two outrer sheaves 9left & right are for reefing, the center is for outhaul, on the latter 27's the topping lift is a vinyle coated 1-19 wire coming from the mast head, which due to my bimini, I cut 2 ft short added a block w/becket, added another block at the two ears on the end of the boom, and added 5ft of yacht braid to make it an adjustable topping lift, the setup you discribe is actually your reefing line.

Easier to draw than explain...

My 27's topping lift is a steel cable permanently attached to the very top of the mast. Rope is knotted to a "thimble at the end of the wire a couple of feet, or so, before it reaches the open end of the boom. The rope goes around a sheave at the end of the boom (just like the reefing line on the opposite side), down the hollow boom, and out from an opening towards the front of the boom first into a jam cleat on the side of the boom, then continues to a regular cleat at the side of the mast where it is made fast for additional safety (also like the reefing line on the opposite side).

Sorry..........

Sorry for the yelling, It must have been frustration in the heat of the moment. Thanks to Tom, I think I understand it now. It is a jiffy reefing system. When I ashed about it before everyone was telling me that the center was outh haul, and the other two were for reefing and topping lift. It confused me because my topping lift is a permenat cable from maft to boom. I had no knowledge of a Jiffy system. Thanks again, and sorry for the caps. I will behave from now on.
