I need to replace the topping lift on my 1990 Hunter 27. Does anyone know how the topping lift is attached to the top of the mast? From the ground looking up, it looks like it is attached in some way with the backstay. The way it is setup on my boat, the topping lift comes down from the top of the mast, thru the boom and has a clutch cleat by the gooseneck.

There is an eye spliced in the topping lift at the top. On the mast there is a small pin through the eye which is held in place with a cotter pin.

on my 1967 Kittiwake 23, I attached a block at the top of the mast, and my topping lift acts the same as a halyard.... it is adjustable this way to raise or lower the boom as I need it...
on my 1971 Morgan 35, I have also set up the topping lift the same way, so I can adjust the boom up or down as needed....
