Well, we finally splashed our new (new to us) 25 fixed keel. It was a lot of work for just a few hours sailing, but just the same we got her sailing.

We had many issues in the whole process and know that next time will not be as many problems. Unfortunately the wind came up too much to deal with all the problems we had to confront out at sea (Monterey Bay). Anyway, one problem was that we had the main halyard twisted with the jib halyard and we were not able to raise the main fully. As a result the boom "sagged down into the cockpit. A topping lift could have helped us somewhat to at least deal with the boom better. I do know about the temp backstay boom lift, but that wasnt what I am looking for as a solution.

So now to the question, has anyone added a bail with block to the aft side of the top of the mast for a topping lift? Or is there another suggestion/solution that any of you have done for a true topping lift with a line that would lead back to the cockpit? Is there an "off the shelf" part to purchase that fits the mast as is?

The boat sailed very well considering us being a bit crippled with the main issues. We still have a lot to learn about handling the boat but just the same had some fun.

We also just splashed a new to us Oday 25. We ran a topping lift which started at the top (around a clevis pin that went through the masthead casting), runs down to a double pulley ( block) attached to the back end of the boom and then goes forward to a cleat. This makes it adjustable from the deck level. It used about 53' of 1/4" line. I use the other pulley (sheave) in the double block for my mainsail outhaul.
