Wave vs. Supertool

I started out using the Leatherman Supertool about 5 years ago. It worked very well for most of my little jobs aboard and at home as well. I've found it useful and close at hand several times/day ever since. A couple of years ago I saw the Wave at a local store and bought it. It has a better locking system, as well as easier access to the blades, saw and files. The other tools don't lock so you can pinch yourself with the other impliments and screwdrivers if you push too hard. I still prefer the Wave. I don't think that anyone has mentioned the fact that Leatherman replaces blades and tools at no charge if you send the whole unit in to them. They have replaced mine on three separate occasions. About the only other knock that I have on either one of 'em is that they don't float...........don't ask me how I know this! Get one now, you won't regret it! Ron S/V "Best Revenge" H 40.5

_MY_ leatherman floats

Well, the one that lives on the boat does. attached to the lanyard is one of those annoying floaty things advertising a marine supplier. Its saved me more than one. Definitely the Wave! Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Gerber/Leatherman/Shrade

Have all three. (Couple of leathermans (men actually). I still dig the Leatherman for durability. Blades seem to hold an edge better too. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Harder metal rusts easier

My leatherman works great but the harder metal makes it more susceptible to corrosion. Make shure to keep it well oiled!

Besides, in the tropics my Leatherman Supertool always pulls my swimshorts down.... Flying Dutchman

Super tool the best, Wave not quit what I expected

The leatherman super tool is the best of these type tools, Every blade locks, a bit uncomfortable to use the pliers. The wave looks good has a better plier grip but most of the blades dont really lock, only stop while closing which can be just as painfull when they slip due to this type of lock. My new gerber seems great so far. I will send my old super tool back now after reading about repairs being done.

The Craftsman Plier, Knife etc Looks Pretty Good

I have two Gerber's and carry them around at times. The Craftsman has the added advantage of a replacement only being as far away as the local Sears. Working on airplanes though has made me kind of a tool snob. I most always go get the right tool. I have a better tool box on my boat than most folks that I know have period. Someone tell me I am not the only one who looks at a project as an opportunity to buy a new tool to do it.

Wave Rave

I love my wave tool because the blades can be used without having to unfold the tool.I haven't tried a supertool yet. I also have a Gerber but I hate the way the handles completly close against each other. I have had my hand pinched countless times by the Gerber. If your one who refuses to accept a multi-tool as a "real" tool then I'll vote for the corless Dremel. Grif
