anyone have suggestions on where to get a good tool kit to keep on board? What are the critical tools & sizes we should have? Thanks, Stuart

dont get the diletant special

Don't buy the 'diletant special' at the boat store or hardware store. Instead, do a little research: check out what your boat needs: (the head, the galley, etc.) Don't try to get everything in one trip. Yanmar uses metric, :metric open end and box end wrench set, metric socket set. + 2 flat screwdrivers, two phillips (#1 & #2), a pair of pliers. Marlinspike is indispensible, as are hemostats. Acquire parts you need, like that big wrench for tightening the driveshaftwhen re-pack needed. Don't buy cheap stuff: sears Craftman is good, but get nothing out of the cutout bin. Put it all in a plastic toolbox. We have used the same bitty jar of white trailer grease for lubricating the slugs on the mainsail for eight years. You can never have enough cotter rings, tiewraps, small wipe-up rags, wd-40 and tuner lube. A volt ohm (multimeter) would be nice, too. The key is knowing where all of this stuff is when you need it. Good luck, joe
