How do you hook up the tongue extender on the trailer? So far I have tried simple U-bolts. Not great.

You do not explain the problem.

Your extender unit should have a hitch ball about two feet from the end and a receiver hitch at the front. The end is kept from swiveling by U-Bolts or through bolt or pin to the trailer.

Thanks. My extender does not have a hitch ball and it slips on the trailer tongue. Where can I buy such an extender? Thanks again for your useful insight. Patrick.

Patrick; You probably won't be able to buy one,but you can have one made. Take your trailer to a trailer repair shop, or maybe even a muffler shop. Tell them what you want, with a simple sketch. They'll be able to fab up something that will work for you.
