Not an opinion on the motor but !!!!
Hi,If you are talking about high thrust and light weight it probably is an excellent motor but keep in mind here that sometimes we overkill the situation. Now I've read you are from Mass., and I suppose there might be a need for all that horse power trying to overcome a strong current in a river or a tide coming in as you are wanting to go out, but bear in mind what the designer and builder had in mind when they layed out the plans and built the 22' Catalina.Undo Stress such as opening the throttle of a motor that is overated for your hull puts an overload of pressure in one particular location of your hull. For the Mark II series of 22, meaning the late model of Cat 22' it is rated for 4-6 hp with a maximum of 90 lbs.You would be within the weight ratio but beyond in the hp aspect of things.Something else you might consider is this. If the motor you are speaking of is a 2 cycle motor beware, because more and more states are adopting pollution laws which restrict 2 cycle motors on lakes and rivers, along with some coastlines after a certain date. So you may end up with a white elephant !If you have to go larger then the 6 hp rating, then make it a 7.5 or 8.0 hp.The only time I could think of going to a larger motor would be in a force 5 gale, and then of course we would not want to be there anyway. So Happy Sailing,Dave LaPere
