I just bought a 1994 Macgregor 26S in great condition. It has a Tohatsu 9.9 two stroke motor, also a 1994 model. My question is what is the gas consumption of that motor running at "cruising speed?" I may want to motor the boat some distance occasionally and I want to know if I'll need more tank space than the 6 gallons that came with it.

tough question

I have a Merc 9.9 which is basically the same motor. It seems to run forever on the two-gallon tank I keep in the laz. I can't be more specific. Currents, speed, weight, wind would all be factors.

Will depend on a lot of factors

I have a Tohatsu 8hp. I can usually get about 6 miles per gallon, but you have to be careful. Full throttle burns a lot more gas for little or no improvement in speed. Yopu may be able to achieve hull speed at half throttle or so and be able to save a lot of gas.

Missed that boat!

Robspan, I almost bought your 1994 26S and came close, but you beat me by 1 day! When I called the next day, the seller told me it was sold. My loss, your gain: Ha-ha. There was a 2nd 26S in Humble, TX, so I bought it the next day, a 1991 26S. I pick it up in 2 weeks, can't wait! Congratulations, hope to see you out on Clear Lake soon. Kevin B. Blame my wife

We already had a Mac 22 and we just went to look so we could take a ride in the country. As we were leaving, my wife, who's pretty tight with the purse strings, said we should buy it right away. I was so surprised I almost drove off the road but I didn't argue. Now we need to sell the 22. Good luck with your boat and I hope to see you out on the Bay.
