I have a Hunter 31 1987 and suspect I have a leak from the toe rail on the stbd side (forward - just behind the pulpit area).

Has anyone fixed this type of problem and if so how do I go about the repair. I had a look in the forum but could find no other threads on this problem.

How do you know that the toe rail is leaking?

How do you know that it is really leaking thru the toe rail?

You could just as easy be leaking thru the pin in the anchor locker, the port in the head, the compression post etc.

Water will follow the path of least resistance.

If you think that it really is the toe rail, you can just get a large phillips screw driver and a socket. Just start tightening down the screws from the bow to the stern.

The hull/deck is an outward flange so if it is really leaking and tightening the bolts down does not work, you may need to remove the rail and see if you have a void in the butyl seal between the hull/deck.

Bow Leak

Thanks to all for your responses.
I think I might have found the problem - and it looks like it may not be the toe rail.
The anchor rode locker has a stainless steel slide bolt which keeps the locker hatch closed. It looks as though the hole which the bolt slides into has been drilled too deep and allows water to get through.
I am going to plug this with some sealant and see if it fixes the probem.

I will put the results on this thread one I have confirmed the fix works (if not I will be looking at the other fixes suggested.
