To mount block with 1" os dia. to tapered stanchion

I want to mount a roller furling lead block on a forward stanchion. The Harken block I'm looking at (#7401) is for a 1" outside diameter stanchion. My stanchions are 1" at base, but taper upwards. I want to mount the block about an inch or two up the stanchion. Is there a nature opf "filler" that will wrap around the stanchion so I can accommodate the block. I note that some other marine products for stanchion mounting have a "filler" for narrower stanchion diameters.
Suggestions. Thanks. Dusty

A lot of blocks for stanchion mounting come with shims for smaller tube sizes. Can you use a block for a 7/8 or 3/4 tube- just mount it where it will fit? Or, get new stanchions of straight pipe.

Our stanchions start to taper above the middle lifeline point, and I do not recall ever seeing any that start to taper from the base. Interesting. Can you post up a picture?

Doesn't the Harken block have an adjustment that will allow you to tighten it down? Some have a "hose clamp-like" attachment and some are more of a semi-circular bent rod -- but all allow you to tighten it down.

You're only putting the block up a bit from the base. I'd attach it and tighten it down and be done with it.

( I prefer the blocks up a bit so the line isn't sitting on the deck for the roller furling which is routed along the stanchions. That way it doesn't get dirty as quickly or interfere with cleaning the deck.)

Maybe a strip of properly cut bicycle inner tube for a "filler" if it is really necessary?

Consider running the line outside the stanchions. This way it would not lie on the deck and it would be out of your way.

I've always had the lines inside and never had an issue. In some cases, I've furled the sail from either the foredeck or the side decks. Usually when single handing our spinnaker .

When does your roller furling line lay on the deck? I found out the hard way (in 70 knots of wind on the way to Bermuda) that if there isn't enough tension on the line when unrolling the sail and sailing with it, the line can become over ridden by loose outer coils which can prevent one from furling the sail when one wants to.
