I have a 12 horse Yammar YSM12,It doesnt give me full power, tired of working on it.Its a 1980.I was considering putting a outboard on the boat its a 30 hunter. What size outboard should I consider to push it.
I realize that is not a direct answer to your question but I am tired of the maintenance and fuel hassles associated with my Yanmar and have been seriously investigating electric propulsion systems. The technology is relatively inexpensive and eliminates a slew of internal combustion propulsion issues. Just a thought.
That would be a mighty big OB and would probably alter your sail plan. With Mack Boring so close in New Jersey, surely they can be of assistance on the Yanmar. Otherwise, describe the problem and what you've done, and I'm sure you'll find some encouragement here with others who have gone through such turmoil.
What ever you do ,make sure that you listen to the people on this weeb page. The are smart and will help you whenever they can.I looked a diesel electric ,found it too be great but not for my boat.stick with what they tell you Frank.
Then a 15 hp would probably be your best bet. I think you can get them w/ 20" shafts, electric start remote controlled for about $2300. Add ~ $350 for a power tilt and another $175 for stout bracket and you'll be good to go for a long time. The only issue might be the transom. Would probably require some extra bracing inside.
