Having read your "Making Battery Cables" for the second or third time raises the question. For a one-time rewiring would it not make sense to have "Genuinedealz" build everything? Their labor of $1.00 per end seems very fair. Or am I paying too much for materials?

Obviously it would be foolish to purchase the kind of crimping equipment that you use for a one-time installation.

What, no friends with the crimper that you need that you could borrow? If you are looking at the Ancor lug crimper at $60+, I agree that is a very high price for a very simple device. However if not everyone needs one, the demand is low which I suppose causes a high price. But the high price further depresses the demand....:soapbox:

Anyway, check your boating neighbors, fellow power squadron and CGA members. If you come up empty, I have one you can borrow for just the round trip postage. I bought one 14 years ago when I installed a house battery bank, windlass, cockpit winch, etc. I personally prefer to do everything myself so that I know that it is either done correctly and to my satisfaction, or I know the exact person to blame if it isn't correct.:)

Ed,

KL Jack has that tool for $159.00 and Phil here on SBO has the heavy duty "Power Lugs". When your done you can probably sell it for $130.00 on the gear here section. I always find it much easier to have it on the boat when wiring.

you can also buy the cable material from genuinedealz and have him send you the crimping tool to use on board and he will send it to you in a box with a return UPS lable included so when you are through with it you just box it up and send it back via Ups ....
