Hi Folks,
I have a Navico TP 5000 tillerpilot. I need a one inch extension on the rod. The Navico part is called a PRE 30. Does anyone know where to buy one of these. The TP 5000 is no longer being made. A company called Simrad bought Navico but I can't find anything on their website. I did find a place where you could ask Simrad a question....and they would answer you.....for $30.00. I passed on the $30.00 answer and came here for a free one. :)

:DThat's real customer service, and I'm sure it will convince many people to buy their products...:D as long as they have plenty of money to throw around. If they charge $30 to answer a question, can you afford the part? I'm not familiar with the part you need, but if you can find a hardware store solution, I'll bet its cheaper! -Paul

Jerry, is it possible that you have your AP mounted on the coaming, thus requiring the extender? If so, have you considered relocating the AP to the cockpit seat, and then using a below tiller bracket? That's what I did with our C25. The brackets from Raymarine also work with the Navico TPs, as I did on that boat.

Unfortunately the company uses some obscure limey threads on the rod. Good luck finding a tap and die set!

The threads are not metric, not SAE, the threads are British. I have seen this thread type on older Rolls Royce engines. Chances are that the machine shop will not have these obscure tools

if the price were less than 1/2 the price of new,

buy a new ~4" extension, cut off the old threads and tap the rod for the extension.

machine shop gets, what 100/hr? I figure 30min work... assuming they can put the actuator in a chuck...

Thanks everyone.
The Simrad TP10 uses the same part number for the one inch extension (PRE 30). I know these two companies are related. I bet that is the same part. Otherwise I will use a piece of pex pipe and hose clamps. Not very elegant but....neither am I :).

Cit the rod in the middle and weld in an extension so that you will have the stock threads on the end.
