Curious what's the best for storage.
Do you tie tiller off.leave it swaying w water movement. Straight. ..to starboard or port away from or toward current or waves...never seen this addressed. ....will leaving your tiller not tied wear down your rudder post ring or bearings??? Ideas anyone...

I put my cover on, then tie it off centered. I've got a couple of little jam cleats on the transom that PO installed for a tiller tamer so I use those. I take a couple of clove hitches around the end of the tiller then pull the line tight through the jam cleats.

If we're cruising and I want room in the cockpit I tie the tiller up to the backstay instead.

Yep on cover and I use a piece of heavy (I think 3/8") shock cord from Ace stretched from jib cleat to jib cleat with a couple of wraps aroung the tiller. The shock cord is also my tiller tamer.

I guess the answer about wear is yes but will not probably be around to see it. I used to tie up just to keep it out of the way.

When I used to sail my C 25 with a tiller I would tie it amidships in the water. It can also be tied to the backstay to get it out of the way. When she was in dry dock over winters I would unbolt the tiller & store in the cabin to reduce wear on the varnish-finish. Its also good security as its hard to steal a boat when U can't steer it! (more of an issue for moored boats).

When I'm on the hook for an overnight, I lift it up to the backstay and tie it off. Also lift the boom up to the pigtail.....this gives me ALOT more room in the cockpit.
