I would like to convert to wheel steering on my 1978 hunter 27'. please forward any info regarding this. The 27 has a weather helm and i have broken 2 tillers.

I had a hunter 27, 1978 that i converted to wheel stering. (1) I used BoatUS to purchase all the edison parts. (Dont buy direct, they will not discount a lot). (2) Call Edison tell them your interested in a conversion and they will send you diagrams with all the part numbers and a catalog. (4) hard part is cutting the enclosed rudder post to attach the quadrant. Email me at mpcsail@aol.com for specific questions or anything else. It took two of us a weekend to install everything. Remember MEASURE TWICE CUT ONCE!!!!

There's a really good system out there through Whitlock, it's rack & pinion. The system is called the Cobra. The beauty of it is that it eliminates the play that you will find with the conventional cable & chain arrangement with Edson, and as an added benefit, it's much less expensive. The unit will come with compass, rail, brake and wheel for under $2k.
