Any ideas or information on how to link the tiller to a motor without a tiller ?? I know of one company that is selling a device for almost 200 bucks but that is more than I want to spend. I have an idea of how it could be done but would require a couple of hours to build and then I an not sure how well it would work. I have also seen systems for use of motors with a tiller.

Bob - I built one for my Venture 224 that works great. Two tricky parts: 1-The motor is about 18" lower than the tiller bar, and 2- the geometry has to be just right. I solved the first with a vertical riser clamped to the motor with a 1/4" stud in the top. For the geometry, the distances from the pivot points of the motor out to the stud, as well as the distance from the tiller's pivot point to the stud on the tiller handle - and their angles, must be the same. I connected the two studs with a hollow stainless tube with a 1/4" threaded rod inside and a swivel connector on each end. I drilled the studs for clips to hold the link on, but it's quick to remove to raise the motor when sailing. Hope I explained myself well enough.

Hi! I have a 'linkage' from the rudder stem to the motor shaft which I never mounted , but I can send photos of the brochure that came with it..or you can look it up on the Internet. If you're interested, let me know. Linda (Boatinbabe)
