When not using the tiller tamer, do you completely disconnect the tamer lines or just slacken them?

To be honest, I never disconnect mine, so it's not really an issue for me.

Were I to do so, I would disconnect the lines if it were not a big hassle just to keep from tripping over them when moving about. I suppose another option would be to wrap them around the tiller.

When I had tiller boats. I used a dock line stretched straight across the cockpit with 3-wraps around the tiller for my tamer. I liked that it applied enough friction to hold the tiller but still allowed me to make big course changes without messing with anything. It was always on the tiller.

That clutch is the best thing going. Better than anything makeshift, and better than the Davis. I used the clutch on a Precision 23. What's great about the clutch, is that when you engage it, it stays engaged and doesn't slip. Solid. And when you want to dis-engage it, all it takes is a little flip with your little finger.

When you're single-handing in a lively boat, fractions of a second can count. You don't want to be messing around turning the tension wheel on a Davis. That's almost a two-handed operation. The clutch is one hand. Instant and reliable.

It's been several years since I sailed my Precision 23, but as I recall, if I was sailing the boat, the line was taut and the clutch was ready for use. Nor do I recollect how I rigged the line. I can imagine a cam cleat on one end could be useful. When not sailing, certainly it would be nice to have the line completely out of the way.

Did I mention that I like the clutch?
