I am in the market for a tiller pilot, either raymarine or simrad, for my 1978 25. But the tiller seems very high, so how do you mount the tp so it is horizontal to the tiller? Many thanks! Kai

Brackets

Both companies make brackets that mount to the underside of the tiller to lower the ball mount. They're easy to install. I used to have a Mac 26S and the tiller pilot had to be mounted on the lazzarette lid. I used a teak winch pad to raise it up instead of lowering with a bracket. The bracket would have been less of a toe stubber though.

Cockpit seat back

Simrad provided a mount that allowed the tiller pilot to attach to the top of the tiller on our '77 h27. A quarter inch aluminium disk with a threaded hole in the center mounted at the right spot on the back of the cockpit seat. A 12 inch, about 3/4" diameter aluminium rod crews into the threaded hole. It has a mounting holes for the little mounting rod at the back of the tiller pilot at about one inch spacings. So I just snap the cupped hole at the end of the control rod on the ball mount on the tiller, drop the back end in the nearest hole on the mounting rod, and hit auto. The good part is that when you dismount the tiller pilot, and unscrew the mounting rod, the disk is flat enough that you don't notice it. The mounting rods come in different lengths, but I'll bet the shortest length will work for your boat as it did for mine. David Lady Lillie
