I saw the post for the tiller pilot on the H26, as well as the photos of the instalation. My question is does anyone have photos of the instalation on an H240. How difficult was it. Is it a weekend project. I'm looking at installing one this winter. I'll be checking out the tents at the boat show looking for a deal. I've checked the archives, but was unable to locate this information specific to the H240.

installed a raytheon st1000 in about 2 hours. required a pedestal mount, a 2 inch riser and a 3inch tiller drop mount. i've since sold the boat, but its' a snap. the pedestal plate gets mounted on starboard seat and when the pilot is not in use you won't even notice it. i installed the female plug under the stern seat. wirted it to the circuit breaker box. loved it.

The motor is mounted on the starboard side. I assumed the tillerpilot would have to be mounted on the port side. I was told that there is a minimum distance it must be located from the motor due to electrical current. I like the idea of mounting on the starboard side, because that leaves the swim platform access free. My kids like to drag their feet while sailing.

We have an ST-1000+ mounted on our H23.5 and it took only an hour after some careful planning. The ST-1000 can be reprogrammed to mount on either side. Ours is mounted on the starboard side and only clears the 5HP Tohatsu by an inch. There doesn't seem to be any error caused by the motor running in close proximity. I took the hardware supplied with the ST1000 to a machine shop and had the pin and cup both threaded to accept standard SS nuts. My mounting is done with standard Stanley shelf brackets on each end. One side is bolted to the coming with an aluminum backup plate behind for extra strength and the tiller end is attached with SS hose clamps. The hose clamps were to be temporary until the correct position was found but they work so well that I won't drill and tap the tiller now. It's possible that a motor with electric start and charging could cause flux gate compass errors but wouldn't affect sailing. Another possiblity is to couple to a GPS when motoring and not use the compass. Ken S/V Wouff Hong

i did not have any problem with the motor causing interference. ken is correct in saying it can be re-programmed to run onthe port side if that is a concern for you.

I just can't get my scanner to work. I installed the ST1000 on the starboard seat like Pat. I used a 4" extension tube that screws onto the pilot's shaft so that my pedestal mount is located right over the "seam" of the starboard seats. This allows me to use the Bottomsider cushions (that I bought right here on HOW!!) without the pedestal interfering. I'll try to get the scanner hooked back up to my old computer this weekend and post the photos. Mark Kissel Kittiwake/98H240 PS. If you don't have cockpit cushions, I would HIGHLY recommend the Bottomsiders. Look great, easy to clean, and provide much comfort. (The light grey with a navy stripe looks fantastic in the 240)
