Tiller vs. wheel
I've used both, and BROKEN both! Many-a-tiller on smaller boats, and wheel steering on a 58' Little Harbor sloop. Recovering from a tiller breakage is much easier. Between wrestling w/ the quadrant and the bow thrusters, we were able to get the 58' back into the slip. I love simplicity! Also, I spend most of my time on the boat NOT under way. Etiher on a mooring/anchor, or in a slip. I swing the tiller out of the way and have much more room than if I had a pedestal, and as far as it getting in the way while under sail, just how much tacking is involved?
