Remove the tiller
As Bill suggested, replace the end nut with a wing nut. If you have the two stainless steel nuts on either side of the tiller inside the rudder housing, you can try tying a piece of dental floss between them so that when you pull the bolt the washers don't fall into the water. This makes inserting the pin a lot easier too. Keep some extra washers, wing nuts and bolts handy just in case you do lose one.As an added deterrent, I remove the fuel tank and hose from the boat each time. If you keep the boat in a slip, you may want to let the dockmaster know where these parts are in case they have to move your boat in an emergency.PeterH23 "Raven"
