i saw a write up in here about a post that fits in the square hole in the cockpit deck and holds the tiller amidships while towing, or in the slip, or as a temporary autopilot they were asking 139.00 for it i went to a metal shop that makes custom counters for restaurants etc and they had a scrap piece of 2"x2"x1/8" wall thickness aluminum square tubing and gave me a 2 ft piece for 5.00. (it's 23" from the bottom of the tiller to the bottom of the hole in the cockpit deck) then i had them burn out a semicircular notch in the top of two sides of the post and weld a couple of 2"x3"x1/8" aluminum ears extending the notch upward so to speak they charged me 10.00 for that the i.d. of the post is 1-3/4" and the o.d. of the tiller is 1-5/8" so it fits in there just right it's real light, so easy to throw in the cockpit locker when you get underway cost $15.00.

Got a pcture?

I would like to see your creation . . .I'm not exactly sure how the notch looks or how the extentions are positioned . . .I have the same issue and also have trouble spending the amount required for the device in the HOW store.
