Tiller handle

Replacing the tiller handle on my 22. Any recommended suppliers? Also, is teak still the best choice?

West Marine, BoatUS, etc. carry tillers. The ones they sell are laminated ash and mahogany.

Probably not teak

I don't think teak is really strong enough for a tiller on a C-22. Teak might be used on smaller boats, but I doubt it. You may think that your teak deck hand rails are strong, but they are secured about every foot or so. Were you to remove those deck rails, I am sure you could easily break it in half. Hence, teak is not used on tillers. As mentioned, West Marine and Boat US carry tillers for C-22's.Also, Catalina Direct which sells two versions, one being more robust than the other and, natch, more expensive.Also, you may wish to invest in a tiller cover to protect your new tiller from the ravages of sun and weather.

i just ordered and recieved the oak/ash laminate tiller from catalina direct, the finish is very nice. i am waiting for my heavy weather tiller straps before i install. price was actually better than westmarine. jeff

I went by West Marine, and they no longer have a contract with the manufacturer of tiller handles. The manager gave me the following phone number; the company told him that they would sell direct to the public.H & L Marine Wordworks323-636-1718
