sail without a rudder
My Dad read this somewhere and described it to me. A couple of years later I snapped a rudder on a day sailor and tried it, it works. Something to remember-- just in case. You can steer the boat using the main and the jib. Letting out on the main, and pulling the jib in, steers the boat to lee, letting out on the jib and pulling in on the main and the boat will go to weather. It is not fast, but you can at least get back to shore.
