I'm seeking opinions on autopilots. I have a San Juan 28 (6300 lbs plus my stuff) and miss having an autopilot. I'm thinking of a Simrad TP10 or a Raymarine ST2000.

The Simrad is cheaper by about $150. The Raymarine may be a little beefier. We don't plan on interfacing it with anything. Please comment.

I've never heard complaints from either one... I have an old autohelm 1000, now Raymarine, that has held up quite well.

I had the ST2000 on my last boat. The tiller utilized channel tubing at the rudder post with a removable wooden handle. When I utilized the TP I removed the handle to the tiller which dramatically freed up space. This was especially nice when the cockpit was full of guests. I also used a wireless remote which allowed me to lounge comfortably while keeping watch.
