i am looking to purchase an auto pilot for my catalina 27 (1974).i was recomended a raymarine st1000 ($395.) and a simrad tp10 ($279.). i also seen a simrad tp20cx($399.) that is being offered with a free remote at this time (which i understand is about a $150.accessory). but do i really need a remote? i would apreciate any comments on performance, installation, etc.. thank you

SIMRAD TP30 experience

I recently installed a SIMRAD TP30 on an ericson 29, my old boat. I was quite satisfied with the product, I did the installation myself, it took about 2 hours overall. I did not acquire the remote, and in boats of that size, I don't really see the need. I suspect the TP10 would be more than adequate for a C27 and the price is very tough to beat. Good luck
