Tiller arm

Does anyone have a good source or suggestions for replacing the tiller
arm on a Vega? The part on mine that the tiller bolts to is cracked,
and I'd like to replace it.

Thanks,

Hi Dave,
The best and most beautiful ones are made by Arend Schram (Holland), he uses
two kinds of wood in layers, which makes the tiller stronger and more
beautiful to look at.
Contact Steve Birch, he knows how to get them.

I had the same problem with the metal plate cracking on the tiller arm. I
had mine welded. It doesn't look as nice as I'd like but I am on a budget and
hoping for a new one as a gift. Besides this one has patina in it to remind me
of many sailing adventures. I had an in water Marine Survey done on the Salt
2 days ago for insurance purposes. It took 2 hours and I really appreciated
all his expert insights into my "well thought of" Vega. I haven't seen the
written report but he didn't say that the weld was not adequate. I will be doing
some replacing of the water lines and valves next time I take her up on the
hill.

I have a question about the genoa. It doesn't clear the life line so I made
a 8 inch shroud extension for the tack (seat). But a racing friend of mine
said that I should skirt the genoa to get the most out of the wind. Do y'all do
that?

By the way, does anyone know where I can get the metal table legs?

Also, I have to reinforce the teak hatch covers we made with slats of wood
glued or bolted vertically on the inside surface. The teak boards were warping
a bit.

Hello-

Yes, if you could E-mail me a photo I'd appreciate it. Also, if you have any idea of the cost of cartage to here in the US it would be helpful. I live in the ZIP code 06254.
