Another example about "Good Deals".
When I bought my Garmin 3205, I asked Hamilton if they could match Tiger's price which they will usually do. They said "Yikes, that's less than we paid for it!". Garmin refused to honor their price protection agreement so I ordered from Tiger after giving Hamilton a couple days to talk to Garmin. The morning after I placed the order, I was in Hamilton and they said Garmin had relented. However, it was too late.
I downloaded and printed the manual while I waited for the unit to arrive and continued to use that copy until it got wet. Then I put the one that came with the GPS on the boat.
Yesterday, I went out to practice with some of the more advanced radar features and discovered that the manual that came with the GPS has no radar section! The radar features are all in firmware and I did an update before using the GPS. They must have had a bunch of units packaged before the new radomes came on line and the manual was updated. They dumped those to Tiger at a much lower price. IF I hadn't updated the firmware, the GPS wouldn't have had any radar functions and I might have wasted days before I figured it out.
No real problem for me now although it would be nice to have the radar section in the bound book. Just an example of the kind of thing that's possible when you are looking at very low prices. I once looked at some jackets I liked in a discount clothing store and didn't buy one because all the zippers were sticky. I later saw the same jackets in a name brand store and all the zippers worked effortlessly. That was certainly no accident.
