I have just purchased a 1975 C22. Having to replace the trailer axle on my 2200 mile journey to the east coast was some cheap insurance.Next , I plan to launch the boat to see if it floats!! I do know that the cockpit drain gets closed. There are two thru-holes up on the port side, near the toilet. What are these for, and can they be closed?? I also can't seem to find out where the cockpit drains to???? I can't find any diagrams regarding the through holes, and what they are for??? Any help would be appreciated. Don't want to sink the boat first time out. Thanks.

Cockpit drains

Hi, I have a 1975 Catalina too. I have owned it about a year. Those drains were a mystery to me too! I believe that the cockpit drains in the swing keel housing-assuming that yours is a swing keel model. Evidence for this hypothesis? I flushed the cockpit while it was on the trailer and I saw water drain from the rear of the keel housing. I intend dropping the keel before spring so that I can re-paint it. I will check it out once its out. Good luck with the launch. Before you launch find all of the through holes. On our maiden voyage we forgot about the ? potti through hole under the front seat in the cabin and it took water pretty quickly. Not quick enough to hit the bottom before we could put it back on the trailer. Suggestion: Don't park the car and trailer before you've had a chance to check that the boat floats. I've added a link to a 1987 Cat 22 Manual just in case you have not come across it.

forward thru hulls

They are for an optional marine toilet. the cockpit drains go into a y fitting under the winch area to a single valve. If it is the same as my older 1970 C22 then it is a poor gate valve just glassed in. I would replace it with a good ball valve and check the bedding to see if it is still good.
