I recently had a thru-hull fail on my 2003 Beneteau 393. All the manganese was leached out of the fitting and it broke off right where it passes thru the hull. The yard foreman at my local boatyard tells me the American-made Beneteaus all have French thru-hullls that are made with inferior bronze. He says they change out thru-hulls on 5 or 6 Beneteaus each season.
Has anyone else had this kind of problem?
Another question: Does anyone know if the thru-hulls are bonded at the factory? I can't see any bonding and am considering having it done. I think I may have some stray currents that add to the early deterioration of my thru-hulls.
