I was messing around checking the water in the fuel filter and noticed the wood block mounting for the engine water intake is wearing thin. I know some of you have replaced through hulls. My boat is a 1980 model and likely the through hulls are due for replacement. However, my plan is not to take the boat out of the water for the next two years. Advice please.

Dry or wet?

When I replaced my thru-hulls I glassed in new pads of 1/4" plywood. I literally soaked them, they are now waterproof. But since you are staying in the water that is not a good option. You could do what some of my friends do with their old wooden boats. Liberally brush on some "Git-Rot". It is an epoxy and will harden even in wet conditions. See Related Link. That should hold you until you get her dry.

Good idea

Thanks Ed, I didn't know that Git Rot would harden in wet conditions. Your idea should stop the fading away of the backing plate.
