I need to replace a thru hull, and want to make sure I buy the right one when I pull the boat for a bottom job. I went to West Marine, and got confused 3/4 or 1". I assume 3/4 because I will need to reduce it to fit the refrigeration hose.

If you already have a thru hull and it is the proper size for the hose you have, then just use the old thru hull as your guide. We cannot tell you if it is a 1" or 3/4" size because we are not standing there looking at what you have. If you cannot bring in the sea cock, then measure the thru hull diameter with a caliper and do the same with the tail piece that the hose fits on.

If I remove it now, I'll sink my boat. I can't tell until I pull it. Seriously, I wanted to have everything in place to replace it when I haul the boat.

You need to measure the diameter of the thru hull in question. In the absence of a caliper you may use a large clamp or a cresent wrench and then measure the gap on either. Understand you are measuring the threads and not the opening so your measurement will apply to the threads of the replacement you are seeking. Get everything at once, the thru hull, the ball type valve and the barb for the hose to insure they are all compatible and will properly fit when doing the job. No one can tell you what size it is without being there as there are no guaranties that any two boats may have come out of the assembly line with the same size thru hulls.

Aren't the thru hull, sea cock and tail piece's sized to the ID of the hose?
So, if it's a 3/4" hose (marked on the hose) the rest should also be 3/4" unless a PO has adapted fittings along the way.

Both 3/4 inch and 1 inch thru-hulls are on the build list provided by Hunter.

Not necessarily. The barb will be sized to the hose ID but the valve could be either standard or full-flow.

Kfish, most WM stores will have what you need sitting on the shelf. Since your bottom job is likely to take a few days you could also get parts overnighted and still make it work.
