Thru-deck fitting replacement

I sail on a 1985 H31. The plug and fitting for the tube leading to the holding tank need replacement. One problem is attaching hose clamp...access to fitting from below weather deck is difficult. You can't see the fitting, much less get a hose clamp screwed on from below. Hose clamp is too big to attach above deck then drop attached fitting to deck..hole in deck's too small. Anybody out there know what I'm talking about and have a hint as to how to proceed? Opinions welcome. -Rich

Ray of hope????

When I replaced the hose going from the pump out deck fitting to th eholding tank on my `83, I noticed that the previous owner had cut the original hose at a point that was accessible inside the head's towel cabinet. They put a PVC connector there, and one simply clamps the hose to the PVC connector. I wonder if you could epoxy or glue a short pice of hose to the new fitting, and clamp a PVC connector in an accessible spot below decks?????
