Depends on the type of backing!

John: I think if you stay away from the type of backing that is like foam rubber it SHOULD be okay. We use some of these on our teak/holly sole without a problem. You could also look at using some of the material that they use under throw rugs on hardwood floors. This is a rubber mesh. It is also used for shelf liners and can be purchased from stores like Costco. The rest of our sole has a berber carpet with binding on the edges. This does not even move so we do not worry about a backing.

Rubber sticks to the wood if liquids such as pop

or beer is spilled on the wood and sozked up by the rubber. It will come off but its a hassle. Ray

Rugs

John, I have used the rubber backed throw rugs for two years with no problem. Previous to that we tried the shelf liner and it does not work. The rubber stuck to the sole and made quite a mess.

I have a boat where the rubber bottom did stick...

and was wondering how you managed to get it off. I tried soaking the stuff with water and then pealing away, but it did not work. Suggestions?? thanks Bob Cunningham

Just replaced

Just replaced the carpets that came with the boat,13 years ago, previous owner cut to fit, but we had them bound. They were a commercial berber, there was little if any movement even under way. For the new carpet, we took the old to a carpet store, picked out a berber 9X12 remnant, they cut the pattern from the old, bound all 4 pieces. Total cost $180.20 The old carpet was not worn or stained, just got tired of it,(it's goung to live in our friend's H34). Good luck!

Rubber ok

We use a rubber backed mat because we could not find a not skid alternative. We just pick the mat up each time we leave so it is off the deck most of the time. Before doing this we did see discoloration in the teak/holly. Little extra work involved here to solve this problem.
