Through-hull repair

The chain locker drain through hull on my Oday 26 looked loose so i cleaned off several layers of gooped up silicon epoxy (love the PO) and I found that instead of a through hull, i had a short peice of thick copper tubing shown below...can i just epoxy it in, or should i spring for a fitting. My wife is getting pretty anxious about all the money i am spending, and I havn't even bought the hatch or ports yet..
Also, similar question...I am replacing my forward sink with a locker for storage. So I am eliminating the need for a through hull there, shown below. Is there a recommended way for plugging the fitting/pipe, or do i have to remove it and repair the hull at that point

the chain locker is looks to be above the waterline, so i would probably use 3m marine adhesive sealant 5200.

the sink drain looks like it could be under the water line at times so i'll leave that to someone more experienced to comment.

Ok, so here is what I did...hope it works

so...I did not like the way the backing bar for the Nose Ring had sharp edges...Sooooo, I ground the inner hull, wetted out some mat, rolled it up and put it into the corner of the bow of the boat. Before I did that I reinforced the bow with some mat, then filled in the corner with the rolled up mat.. I installed the nose ring backing bar over the now reinforced area with no hard edges to crack the hull/laminate. That eliminates the Hard Sharp edge of the backing plate for the Nose Ring. It feels very strong. Solid. No hard edges.
In Addition, I ground the surface of the little copper tube I was talking about, then wetted the threads, screwed it into it's hole, and then "tabbed" it into place with fiberglass mat. Then I wetted the whole mess in.. It feels pretty solid. It is not perfect, but has to be a damn site stronger and dryer than the previous set up.
The pix below are the reinforced area with the nose ring backing bar in the foreground.

Mine just had a piece of tubing stuck into the hole above the bow eye.
A pipe nipple screwed into the hole sounds like a better way.

I've got the same thru-hull from the sink on mine. I'm also eliminating the sink. I was thinking of using a bronze thru-hull with pipe threads and a pipe cap on the inside.

I just patched the holes from the old knotmeter and depth sounder transducers. They were located on both sides of the keel with access in the settees. The gauges were old SR Mariners and the holes were about 2 1/4". The job was pretty straight forward and went fairly quick.
I glassed on the inside and outside.

Maybe I could just glass over the sink thru-hull from the inside so I won't mess up the boot stripe too much. The hole is quite a bit smaller than the others and would go even quicker.

BTW What are you using for fabric on the inside hull?

The rode locker on my boat has a thru hull for the drain tube from the locker which is standard black tubing. That tubing goes directly to the hole in the bow. The tube is just caulked in place into the hole.

If you want to remove sink drain from thru hull just cap or plug it so water cannot flow back in.

Hi Rich,
I am using Episize Glass Fabric. it is a woven six ounce fabric from west system. I have used another. but this one does not shred or shed or stretch nearly as much as the other. The other glass fabric I used was From defender industries online. it was Hexcel Prefered 10 oz cloth. But it is thinner so I am not sure what those oz numbers mean. And it tends to come apart easy. The weave is looser on the 10 oz stuff.
Currently I am using a cheap epoxy from U.s. composites, which was about 1/3 the price of west system, but the pumps dispense larger amounts, and so you waste more.

Since you are eliminating your forward lavatory also, how do you intend to reconfigure your interior?
