Thru-hull transducer

I will install the hummingbird 598 hd si fishfinder on my h240. What is the best position to drill for the thru-hull transducer?

Thank you for your support

why would you want to drill a hole in your boat when the transducer will shoot thru the hull just fine? there are many posts here about mounting transducers if you use the search engine...
if you drill a hole in the hull to mount the transducer, and then sometime in the future want to change to a different type of depth sounder, you will invariably have a hole that is the wrong size.
by mounting it inside the hull and shooting thru, you have no worries or problems associated with holes in the hull if you decide to upgrade.

Whether thru hull or drilled, forward of the keel, centerline, flat horizontal is desired position. When I had a Catalina 22, I put my thru hull transducer aft of the keel. I put down a bed of vaseline and made sure it would read well, then cleaned it all up and bedded it in silicone rubber sealant. Worked fine. Since the boat only drew 1.5 feet, it was no problem the time I ran the bow up on a shoal. Just got out and pushed back off. Your mileage may vary. :)

I have the 3M 5100 ruber marine sealant, good idea to test transducer before. Should I do it myself or hire a pro?

Re: thanks

I bedded my transducer in vaseline and went out for a sail to make sure it read properly (charted depths vs display and all). After I was satisfied, then I stuck it in place. Can't think why you'd need a pro since you're shooting thru the hull. If it doesn't work out, you can do something different since you haven't drilled the hull. If you meant 5200, I'd say don't use that. That stuff is extremely permanent from what I hear. I bedded my transducer with clear silicone RTV.
