I bought an O'DAY 23' about 6 months and having a wonderful time sailing in the greater San Diego area. I am in the process of installing a Metz VHF antenna on the mast. I plan to mount the antenna to the top plate or side of the mast, run the cable inside the mast to within 6 inches of the mast base. Then run the cable out of the mast and attach a fitting for connection to a through deck fitting. My concern is drilling and properly sealing a hole through the deck for installation of a double female through deck connector. I'am a trailer sailor, so VHF antenna installation requires that I be able to connect and disconnect the VHF cable as part of the mast stepping/unstepping process. Running lights on the mast were installed in much the same manner. Any words of wisdom or caution regarding installing through deck fittings before I start this project?
